Joan has an extensive background in accounting and general office work. After completing the C.P.A. preparatory curriculum at Sonoma State University and obtaining an undergraduate degree in Management, she decided to pursue a career in the private sector rather than in public accounting. During her 20+years at Hewlett-Packard (later to spin off as Agilent), she gained extensive cost accounting experience, as well as working as a financial analyst in Planning & Reporting and Fixed Assets. She was actively involved in many special projects at HP/Agilent, including reorganizations and system design.

She was the treasurer of Fountaingrove Toastmasters and is a Competent Toastmaster, and has led Junior Achievement classes in business principles. She has served as treasurer on the boards of the Wildlife Center for Disease and Toxin Investigation and of the Sonoma Action for Equine Rescue.

In addition to corporate accounting, Joan has worked as a bookkeeper at small firms and has managed several family-owned businesses ranging from retail to agriculture. She has experience in general office work and is proficient in several software packages, including the Microsoft Office Suite, and is a QuickBooks Advanced ProAdvisor.

Since leaving Agilent in 2002, Joan’s focus has been assisting entrepreneurs in managing the office and financial aspects of their business. As an Enrolled Agent, she is able to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, and maintains her clients’ books with an eye toward making their tax preparation painless!
